October is officially National Bully Prevention month. Every October, DPC puts on the Upstander Carnival. This event for elementary-aged children aims to teach them to identify bullying and help them be UpStanders, rather than bystanders, when they see it happen.
-This year our UpStander Carnival will be held on October 15th 2022, from 10:00am-1:00pm at Davis Central Park 401 C Street in Davis. This Carnival will consist of familiar carnival games with the added element of learning to be an Upstander. Our aim is to give children resources for dealing with this common and impactful situation. Contact us for further details at admin@davisphoenixco.org.
-Right to Be: This year we are looking to partner with RIGHT TO BE for added bystander training workshops for the rest of our community. For more information about the training go to https://righttobe.org/
-For our LGBTQ+ families, we continue to hold meetings over videoconference, allowing people to connect and share space while safeguarding community health. Our Yolo Rainbow Families group—open to LGBTQ+ parents and caregivers of LGBTQ+ kids—meets once a month. Our LGBTQ+ Teen Group is open to all junior-high and high school-aged kids and meets twice a month. If you or your teen are interested in joining, please contact our coordinator, Anoosh Jorjorian, at anoosh@davisphoenixco.org
-In Addition see several RESOURCES below that can be accessed all year long.
-This UpStander Celebration is dedicated to the memory of Eva Dopico, our beloved member who was a champion of creating safe, accepting spaces for children and all people.
