Of course, we like to celebrate, too, uniting our community in events that bring us closer and give us a break from our sometimes too-hectic world. Our lives aren’t just sunshine and roses, but we believe that together we can overcome any challenges that come our way.

What We Do:
Awareness
There are different ways to raise public awareness about social justice issues. It can be done through specific planned events, poster campaigns, websites, documentaries, newspaper articles, in schools and workplaces – any publicly available medium. Join us in sharing ways your group raises awareness in our community.

Advocacy
The Davis Phoenix Coalition is partnering with community and civic groups to promote a pro-social climate and support those in need of advocacy in areas of bullying, hate incidents and discrimination. We are particularly excited to be working with the Davis Police department to host quarterly "Chats with the Chief" to build community relationships with the police, as well as our Monthly Rainbow Families Support group for families of the LGBTQ+ community.
Education
To aid the school district in its efforts to build social emotional skills, the Davis Phoenix Coalition runs the annual Up-stander Carnival every October. Set in a carnival-like atmosphere, the event is designed to provide children in grades K-6 with activities that teach them to identify and respond to bullying. Along with hundreds of children, last year’s attendees included school district administrators, local civic leaders and youth volunteers.
Our Goals:
Develop an outreach policy with a focus on justice groups, With the purpose to better coordinate education, advocacy, and visibility projects in the broader community and foster climates of safety and respect.
Develop an LGBTQ+ resource hub to provide more visibility and resources available to LGBTQ+ community. This effort will be led from and highlight our Yolo Rainbow Families, LGBTQ+ youth group and Davis Pride Festival teams.
Establish a physical space for the Phoenix Coalition in Davis this space will be a place for community members to access and coordinate services, programs, and other events designed to meet the needs of those affected by intolerance and their allies.
